Waves of Awakened Awareness—Coming Home to Ourselves (Or Calling Forth My Team)

And What Our Childhood Fairytales Taught Us About this Time in Earth’s History

Has All Hell Broken Loose?

This year, we have experienced wave after wave of unprecedented global events: a worldwide pandemic, government-enforced lockdowns, paid opposition rioting and looting, massive counter-demonstrations, and social unrest and divisiveness across the world. It seems no part of the globe is left unaffected by these events.

Has all hell broken loose around the world?

Or is there something deeper going on?

For a moment, consider with me that, as a world, we have been put under a spell from which we are now awakening en masse. What if there have been control structures in place for millennia in our world that are so perfect, so pervasive, and so hypnotic that our minds, thought systems, and environmental conditioning, under the influence of these control structures, have us convinced that everything we perceive around us is our one and only, undeniable, unbreakable reality?

If this is true, how do we break the spell?

Is the outside world truly something that each of us has no control over? Is all of it going on in spite of anything we individually might choose or say or do?

Or contrary to these perceptions, do we somehow create our own reality? Regardless of what you believe, let’s start with what we can likely agree on—where we do have control—over ourselves.

So, with that focus, let’s look inward. Individually, what is our preferred reality? How have we swerved off the track from, or failed to achieve, our preferred reality? What has stopped us individually from realizing the potentials that we dreamt of in our reveries, desires, and imaginations? Why have we never achieved those dreams? Did we not believe in ourselves?

Did we believe those who told us we were crazy? Were we “shooting too high”? Were we attempting the impossible? Were we disheartened by those who said, “Who do you think you are to believe you can achieve what you dream?”

The Healing Place that is Culinaria

LemonRicottaCakeIs it possible for a restaurant to be a healing place? In my humble opinion, yes! On my third visit to Culinaria Mediterranean Kitchen, a full-service restaurant in East Lawrence, Kansas, I had the opportunity to meet and speak with owners Regan and Aaron Pillar. They are the unassuming, down-to-earth husband-and-wife creative partnership that own and operate Culinaria with their team. They successfully established Culinaria as a catering business starting in September 2009, and eight years later, in September 2017, they opened Culinaria to the public.

Culinaria’s food artistry blends locally grown seasonal produce and meats, old-country Mediterranean style food with Aaron’s creative flair, and nourishing, flavorful, yet simple food combinations to create an unforgettable dining experience.

Culinaria’s creative expression extends to the welcoming ambiance of their dining room. The natural environment and bright artwork invite an experience of Zen-like relaxation perfect for celebrating wonderful food and good company, even if you just bring yourself!

From the moment you arrive, [Read more…]

I’m Open for Business!!

CornyFrankUfoPictureI’m open for business! What does that mean? I have officially hung out my shingle—I am a life coach, a personal coach, or a light coach, as you please!

So I’m letting my freak flag fly! I can hide no longer. I’m officially and fully “coming out” after having been a closet star seed, light-worker, and shadow-hunter for way too long. I can no longer be the square peg in the round hole, pretending I fit into the mold dictated by “convention” or societal norms. I am a life coach, a light coach. For now, until my highest joy leads me to my next authentic expression, life coaching is what I’m here to do.

My coaching business is called Facilitating You. It’s about you. In our coaching sessions, you’re the driver. I’m the coach, but you set the sails and steer the boat.

As the name “Facilitating You” implies, it’s about bringing you into a state of ease—a release and re-alignment of the dissonant or conflictive parts of yourself. The word “facilitate” is from the Latin root “facilis” meaning easy. I’m here to help you turn difficult into easy. I’m here to help you realize the authentic, transparent aliveness that you forgot was you.

20th Anniversary of My Heaven’s Gate Departure

August 31, 2013, was the 20th anniversary of my departure from the Heaven’s Gate cult. That anniversary was about eleven months ago. Below is the journal entry that I shared with my brothers on that day.

I realize there may be contextual factors of life in the Heaven’s Gate cult that aren’t clear from this account since it’s a snapshot of my time there. If so, I apologize. If you do have questions, I’m sure some of them will be answered in subsequent blog posts. Or you might have to wait for my book to come out. Please feel free to leave your comments and questions below.

Today was the 20th anniversary of my departure from the Heaven’s Gate group (cult, classroom, commune). It was 20 years ago today—on August 31, 1993—that I was driven to the airport in San Diego and I boarded a plane for Calgary (with a plane change at LAX). I remember two fellow group members, Srrody (pronounced “Sirr-ody”—Terry Stephen McCarter) and Swyody (pronounced “Soy-ody”—he now goes by Sawyer), sitting with me at the San Diego airport in the departure lounge. (It was pre-2001 of course—remember when you could see your friends and family off in the departure lounge?)

They sat reading their personal notes, I suppose from a recent meeting with Do (Dō, the remaining leader of the cult), while I sat anticipating the transition I was about to undertake. Srrody seemed almost smug as if he knew without a doubt that he was going to “Heaven” while I was going to “Hell”. But that didn’t dampen my resolve to leave. I was glad for him that he was so sure of what he needed to do. I felt just as sure of what I needed to do. I was sure of my decision to leave the group, or put another way, I was sure it was no longer right for me to stay in the group, although I recall having mixed emotions about what was next for me.

An Instrument of Vision

Recently, I visited my uncle, Cabot Lyford, near Portland, Maine. Cabot is well-known in New England as an artist and sculptor of stone, wood, and bronze. He’s in his late-80s and has retired from sculpturing due to health. Also fairly recently, a film was released about him as part of an ongoing series of film portraits of distinguished Maine artists, Dale Schierholt’s “Cabot Lyford: Portrait of a Man as Artist”. On my visit, I had a chance to share my appreciation for him and my thoughts on the advent of the film. The letter below is my follow-up to him in response to that visit.

July 6, 2014

My Dear Uncle,

It’s been two weeks since seeing you last in Damariscotta. On our brief visit, I attempted to express my appreciation for you and for the honor being given you in the form of Dale Schierholt’s new film, “Cabot Lyford: Portrait of a Man as Artist”. This letter is the result of collecting and refining my thoughts since then which I’d like to share with you now.

Wise people have said we communicate the things we most need to learn. Something increasingly important to me lately is the acknowledgment of value—the core value of oneself and of others—a past and present focus for me.

Two weeks ago I felt I didn’t adequately express two things to you. First is how wonderful and appropriate this film is in tribute to your work. Second is my sense of the significance to you, and to all of us who have experienced your work, of the aspiration you realized early in your career to achieve something beautiful, meaningful, and lasting.
